The shooting of Renee Nicole Good has sent shockwaves across the United States.
And new statements from President Trump have only intensified the situation.
A fatal shooting involving an ICE agent in Minneapolis has sent shockwaves across the country, igniting fury, protests, and a fierce political firestorm. As disturbing footage from the incident spreads rapidly across social media, reactions have been swift — and deeply divided.
The shooting occurred Wednesday morning, January 7, when federal immigration officers were conducting operations in Minneapolis. Video circulating online appears to show an ICE agent attempting to open the door of a woman’s vehicle as she tries to drive away. Moments later, a second officer fires his weapon.
The car can then be seen rolling forward before crashing into a parked vehicle.
‘She was an amazing human being’
The woman was later identified by her mother as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, she was killed just a few blocks from her home.
Renee’s mother, Donna Ganger, told the Star Tribune that her daughter lived in the Twin Cities with her partner and that the family was notified of her death late Wednesday morning.
“That’s so stupid” that she was killed, Ganger said after learning some of the circumstances from a reporter. “She was probably terrified.”
Ganger stressed that her daughter had no involvement in anti-ICE protests.
“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” she said. “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
Political leaders react: “Public Murder”
As the footage continued to circulate, condemnation poured in from Democratic lawmakers.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the killing as a “public murder.”
“What we saw today was a criminal murder a woman and shoot her in the head while she was trying to escape and flee for her life,” she said, calling it the “manifestation of every American’s worst nightmare.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey delivered an emotional and furious response during a press conference shortly after the shooting.
“There’s little I can say, again, that’ll make this situation better,” Frey said. “But I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I have a message for ICE.”
“To ICE, get the f— out of Minneapolis,” he raged.
“They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust,” Frey continued. “They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets and in this case quite literally killing people.”
“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is b-hit,” he added.
Trump blames the victim
President Donald Trump, however, took a dramatically different stance — blame squarely on the woman who was killed.
”I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
”The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing, and resisting, who then violently, wilfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense.

”Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital,” Trump added. “The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE agents on a daily basis.”
Trump concluded: ”They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE.
”We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Internet erupts — divided reactions
Trump’s comments triggered an immediate backlash online.
”You are a horrible disgusting disgrace to humanity,” one user wrote.
Another added that Trump is “never going to admit to doing anything wrong. Ever.”
”He believes that people no longer believe what they see with their own eyes- only his,” a third person said. ”It is a cult.”
Yet others voiced support for the president and the ICE agent involved.
”When law enforcement tells you to stop repeatedly you STOP,” one person commented. ”This isn’t new, we learn this in elementary school. This kind of s— doesn’t need to happen.”
Another wrote, ”Glad to see the ICE Officer survived. Great training. Thank you ICE Officer, please recover quickly. GO MAGA!”
Homeland Security backs ICE agent
The Department of Homeland Security echoed Trump’s assessment, releasing a statement defending the ICE agent’s actions.
”Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.
”An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.
”This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement who are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
”This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available.”
JD Vance weighs in
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on the fatal Minneapolis shooting on X tonight, defending the ICE officer involved.
Responding to another post about the incident, Vance wrote:
“You can accept that this woman’s death is a tragedy while acknowledging it’s a tragedy of her own making. Don’t illegally interfere in federal law enforcement operations and try to run over our officers with your car. It’s really that simple.”
In a separate post, he added:
“I want every ICE officer to know that their president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind them.”
“To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we’re going to work even harder to enforce the law,” he concluded.
As investigations continue, the death of Renee Nicole Good has become a flashpoint in America’s ongoing debate over immigration enforcement, police use of force, and political accountability — one that shows no signs of cooling down.
